All-new Civil Marriage Law for Scotland
On November 14 2001 the Marriage (Scotland) Bill was published, lifting restrictions on where civil marriages can take place in Scotland.
This means that if this law is passed by the Scottish Executive, your Registrar will be free to conduct a civil wedding ceremony outwith your local registration office and in a place of your choice, as long as it meets with local authority stipulations (a charge is likely be made by local authorities to use certain buildings and areas for marriage purposes. Each local authority will be responsible for setting up their own registration scheme).
In short, this new law means that if you opt for a civil wedding your ceremony can take place in a dreamy rather than dreary location.
