TOP TIPS for a Snap Happy Day

  • Book your photographer at least six months in advance of your wedding.
  • Make sure he/she is a member of a professional photographers' association.
  • Confirm in writing the date, time, ceremony venue, reception venue and any special arrangements.
  • Discuss in detail the type of shots you want and any special effects. Do you want a mixture of formal and informal? Do you want a shot of every guest arriving or will a group shot do? All these decisions will affect the final cost.
  • Check if the cost of the album is included in the package likewise for travel costs and the delivery of shots to the reception. All quoted prices should be confirmed in writing.
  • If you have arranged outdoor photographs, make sure you have an alternative location chosen in case of bad weather.
  • Give your photographer a timetable of the day and a list of both photographs required, and guests to be snapped.
  • A week before the big day, check all is well with the booking.
  • If you are to be photographed getting ready, make sure that the photographer has the correct address and relevant directions.
  • Make sure that you, or your photographer, has checked that photography (including flash shots) is permitted in ceremony venue.
  • Camera problems and lost or damaged film should be covered by your photographer's indemnity. Check he/she is covered before booking.
  • Most wedding insurance policies cover the cost of a re-shoot if the photographer doesn't show.
