TOP TIPS for Wedding Hair

  • Plan ahead. Often with wedding hairstyles it's a case of trial and error, so allow time to try different styles to see what suits you best.
  • There are three definite styles for wedding hair - up, down or half and half. We suggest to clients they try two different styles as, even though you may think you know exactly what you want, it may appear different when you put on a tiara or veil.
  • If you see something you like in a magazine by all means bring it along. A picture is one of the best means of communication between a hairdresser and client.
  • If you want your hair to be up for the ceremony but down for the reception, the best thing is to have it set with curls and then caught up loosely for the ceremony. Then, when you come to unpin it, you'll have wonderfully soft movement and look utterly glamorous.
  • If the mother of the bride is wearing a hat I suggest she leave a couple of Velcro rollers in the crown of her hair. This will ensure that, when she takes off her hat, her hair will still retain body and movement. Just remember to hold on to that hat if it's a windy day...
  • Another tip if you're wearing a hat is to back comb your hair - and don't smooth it out until you take the hat off. Again this should give you volume.
  • If you are opting for a colour or perm don't wait till the last minute. Two weeks before is the ideal time to get treatments done. Styling only should be done on 'the day'.
  • If you have short hair, steer clear of heavy tiaras. Look out for hair accessories like flowers, diamante hair slides and combs that will complement short hair - and still look wonderfully weddingy.
