If you want to be covered up for the church but transformed for the reception, choose a dress with its own shrug or bolero. In fact, some dress styles feature detachable sleeves or stoles to give you the best of both worlds.
If you find your veil is creased on the day DON'T attempt to iron it - simply hang it in the bathroom while you take your shower and let the steam work its magic on the creases...
Never choose your dress purely in artificial light. Go to the door of the shop to see exactly how the material looks in daylight - especially if you are having a day-time wedding!
White can be a surprisingly difficult colour to wear - so don't panic if you if you feel that nothing suits. Why not try ivory or even blush pink as a more flattering alternative?
Beware of coloured bodices worn with light coloured skirts as this combination can 'cut you in half' and tends to be unflattering. A bodice and skirt in the same colour will give a more streamlined look.
When trying on your dress, make sure you see yourself in a full length mirror - paying as much attention to the look of the back as the front.
